Wine Folly

This is a excellent book which will help you to understand all aspects of wine from the basics – styles of wine, regions and grape varieties – to how to taste wines as well as food and wine pairings. All in the form of an easy-to-access, visual guide.

The Oxford Companion to Wine

For those who are studying for WSET and similar qualifications this book is a must. The most comprehensive source I am aware of.

The World Atlas of Wine

A Hugh Johnson/Jancis Robinson co-production with guides to all the world’s major wine regions, and a host of interesting articles including the history of wine, grape varieties, terroir, and how to make and taste wine.

Understanding Wine Technology

David Bird explores the science of wine-making from the vineyard to the winery and beyond in this fascinating book full of great examples from around the world.

Jim Gore's Global Wine Academy

A former WSET educator, Jim runs fantastic tasting and theory courses for Diploma and Master of Wine students. I found his tasting courses invaluable in preparing for my Diploma exams.

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) claims to be the largest global provider of wine, spirits and sake qualifications. I am a big fan having completed Level 3 and Level 4 (Diploma) awards with them.

Students tend to be a mixture of those working in the industry and wine enthusiasts and can be done in the classroom, on line or a mixture of the two.  The four levels offer something for everybody and the chance to progress to more in-depth study as you wish.
