Frappato – a breath of summer

A glass of rosé is often regarded as the ultimate aperitif wine in summer but how about trying a Frappato? Frappato is a light red wine from Sicily whose floral, and bright, red berry notes make it ideal for summer drinking. Try it slightly chilled – it works really well. A few weeks ago I went to the Wines of Sicilia trade tasting in London and was able to enjoy several good examples – especially Il Frappato from Valle dell’ Acate. Uncorked offers this in bond only but the Wine Society has a Frappato from Mandarosso and Waitrose has introduced a Frappato in its Loved & Found range.
